.......and the result is a sewing inspired wall hanging. For those of you playing at home, first check out StudioL3 for all the Compendium of Curiosities challenge details. Or, not to play favorites, you can first head over to Simon Says Stamp and Show to find out about their ephemera challenge. Because once again, I've scored a twofer.
The CCC (can you believe we're up to #34, with only one left!?) challenge is Dimensional Collage Fragments, and as the title indicates, it involves putting various items together in a collage, and covering them with a fragment. The SSSS challenge is to use ephemera. Two projects that work together beautifully, as I used some old sewing pattern paper as my background, and that surely qualifies as ephemera.
If you read yesterday's post, you know I have sewing on my mind. I arranged some related items (faux buttons, made of paper; scissors charm; fabric scrap; thread; two needles) on the pattern paper and then proceded to follow Tim's directions on page 63 of his book. I added some faux stitching around the large circle fragment, using a black glaze pen.
Putting that aside to dry, I stamped a coaster with a Stampin' Up dress pattern stamp, a manequin stamp (origin unknown), and a thimble stamp from Lost Coast Designs, all with black archival ink. Then using a blending tool, I inked it with peeled paint, shabby shutters, and broken china distress inks, and a little stained walnut around the edges.
I used my trusty crop-o-dile to punch holes in the bottom so I could attach some buttons, a sewing machine charm, and a tiny spool. The chain for hanging is held on by two hitch fasteners and some jump rings. I learned that cool technique on the 2009 Tim cruise to Mexico.
Two really fun challenges that I totally enjoyed combining into one.
OH I just LOVE this! And congrats on the twofer. bren47

What a cool idea, Eileen! Even though I can't sew to save my life, I love the imagery (and admire anyone who can use one of those wizard-y stitching machines...). The Fragment collage is just fabulous, and the little charms are so cute. And, what a brilliant way to mount and hang it. The colors on the coaster are great.
